Rev. Elvin Ward Elms, 90, of Cooper, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at his home.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4th, at First Assembly of God Church in Cooper with Rev. Rick Richardson officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Rev. Elvin Ward Elms, 90, of Cooper, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at his home.

Rev. Elms, the son of Paul Joseph & Bessie Thorn Elms, was born July 1, 1924, in Banner, AR.

He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. His career with Van Waters & Rogers, a chemical plant in Dallas, spanned many years before his retirement. The plant made upholstery, and it was there where Elvin learned to sew and became very proficient at sewing. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.

Rev. Elms was an avid deer hunter, enjoyed collecting guns & knives, enjoyed plants & flowers and making videos.

He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Cooper. When he was in better health he and his wife, Rev. Sandra Elms, formed Elms Ministries. They ministered through the Word and in Song throughout Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Not long before his death, they were still ministering at five local nursing homes.

Survivors include his wife, Rev. Sandra Elms, four children, Carol Prater of Cooper, Donny Elms of Collinsville, Marilyn LeFlore of Irving and Phyllis Abshire of Irving, five step-children, Kim Evans of Irving, Linda Peckham of Sulphur Springs, Twila Kearney of Mesquite, Dale Eitel of El Paso and Cindy Martinez of Grapevine, 21 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, a sister, Freda Deason of Oil Trough, AR, numerous nieces & nephews along with many friends.

Casket bearers will be: Andrew Martinez, Ryan Martinez, Jeffrey Houston, Jacob Houston, Jason LeFlore & Sean Perkins. Honorary bearers will be: Micah, Nathan and Joshua.
